About

The original intention with this site was for it to be a small classified ad site for the expat-English-speaking community of Kaohsiung County, Taiwan. After playing around with domain names – most ending with the word “ads”, or containing a combination of the words “classifieds” and “taiwan” I decided to slightly broaden the spectrum of the site.

Thus was born FOREIGN REPUBLIC.

I’m still retaining the idea of classified ads, but I will focus on linking to job listings found on other sites.

Other content will aim to broaden knowledge of Taiwan, and of local culture. Areas I’m ambitiously aiming to cover include: Taiwan/Chinese culture, Taiwan/Chinese food, language (Chinese, Taiwanese, Hakka), expat life, visa requirements, work conditions, travel in Taiwan, Taiwan news and Taiwan cinema.

Many foreign nationals come to Taiwan to make money, either because it’s a more interesting way to earn a living than sitting in an office in your home country, or because even a boring job in your home country is not a possibility in the current economic climate. A favorite hobby of mine for some years has been researching secondary sources of income whilst living in Taiwan (as a foreigner). A lot of these sources depend on access to the Internet, and as such can be expanded into regular sources of income even when you’re not in Taiwan anymore. Information on this topic can also be found on the site, and will be credible, and from first hand experience (and by that I mean thousands of hours of trial and error).

Finally, there’s the service I refer to as CREATED SPACES. Establishing some presence on the Internet can be extremely fulfilling, on both a personal level and in terms of generating an income. Problem is, many people have no idea of where to start. This particular service extracts the pain from the process, and provide you with a custom-made, ready to use website. Browse around this section and if interest stirs, give me a call.
